Area of Research Interest: Dementia Care in the Acute Care Setting, Transparency in Healthcare Pricing, Massage Therapy as Adjunct Pain Management In Lieu of Opioids, and Barriers to Effective Study Techniques

Dr. Kia Countess is an Assistant Professor with the School of Nursing at Western Carolina University. She is an experienced educator with a demonstrated dedication to higher education. Prior to coming to WCU, Dr. Countess taught in various nursing programs, including Auburn University, Troy University, and Central Carolina Technical College. She is a strong healthcare services professional with a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama – Huntsville and designation as an NLN Certified Nurse Educator. Dr. Countess is actively involved in professional organizations as well as advisement roles for student organizations. Areas of interest include item writing, test analysis, student retention, course creation, and curriculum development. She is proud to serve on the Board of Directors for the National Certification Boar for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.
