New Student Orientation

Virtual New Student Orientation

Online orientation will open for students registered for summer courses on Monday, May 25th, and for all new incoming fall students on Monday, June 1st, and will cost $45. Students that completed or submitted mandatory orientation materials on or after Friday, May 29th will gain access to online orientation on Monday, June 8th. All students must complete the Blackboard modules by Thursday, July 2nd, to ensure that University processes such as room assignments and billing occur as regularly scheduled.

Have questions about Orientation? Join our professional staff for virtual office hours! Available to help students, guests, and families each week Tuesday from 1-3pm and Friday from 9-11am from Monday, May 25th and to Thursday, July 2nd

New Student Orientation Live-Streams

Join us for a series of orientation live-streams covering a variety of topics and answering all your questions for us here at WCU. Topics will include student employment, health and wellness, academics, campus safety, dean of students, dining, intercultural affairs, campus activities and more. All live streams will begin at 6pm ET and participants will have the opportunity to comment with their questions for the presenters. If you are unable to tune in live, the streams will be available for viewing after the fact.

Tues., May 26th - Student Employment

Join us for an orientation live-stream about student employment. We will talk all things needed to get a job working on campus as a student including I-9 requirements, types of jobs available, the difference between work-study and non-work study, JobCat 2.0, and more!

Tues., June 2nd - Academic Roundtable

This roundtable will help students and family members be aware of what students need to do to be successful in classes at WCU. Participants will learn about class structure and building relationships with the faculty from a professor and resources available to help you thrive in the classroom from staff within the Writing and Learning Commons and Math Tutoring Center.

Tues., June 9th - Orientation Roundtable

The New Student Orientation team will answer questions about the online orientation process and provide additional information about ways to get involved as you learn more about WCU through our online program.

Tues., June 16th - Information Technology

How do you connect to the wifi on campus? Will I be able to hook up my video game systems and smart TV while on campus? Who do I contact if I get a virus on my computer? Learn the answers to these questions and much more as you hear from professionals from our IT Help Desk.

Tues., June 23rd - Dean of Students

The Dean of Students Office is committed to not only working with students but also providing resources for parents and family members as well. This session will talk about ways for parents to get involved at WCU, what it means to Go Greek in Cullowhee, and even address how we hold students accountable when they break the Code of Conduct.

Tues., June 30th - Dining

Join us for a discussion of all the great dining locations on campus including discussion around the different meal plans and what exactly block meals, declining balance, and meal exchanges are.

Weds., May 27th - Health and Wellness

Join us for an orientation live-stream about health and wellness at WCU. Topics will include resources to support an active lifestyle via the Campus Recreation Center, mental health awareness with Counseling and Psychological Services, and physical health with Health Services.

We balance our academic mission with the well-being of our total community. This panel will feature information on emergency services, public safety technologies, the Campus Police Department, and resources/programs designed to prevent and discourage crime on campus.

Join us for an Academic Advising Roundtable where we will discuss a number of topics surrounding class registration at WCU. Learn more about registering for classes, our online advising resource center Navigate, the different types of advisors who will serve as resources for students throughout their time in Cullowhee, and how equivalencies and credit from previous institutions will apply to WCU.

Intercultural Affairs works with all members of the University to provide a campus environment where students from different backgrounds and culture groups feel appreciated, respected and valued. Join us as we talk about programs and resources available to make all students feel at home at WCU.

Weds., July 1st - Campus Activities

Wondering what there is to do in Cullowhee outside of the classroom? Campus Activities provides ample opportunities to get involved via on-campus concerts and movies, arts and cultural events and trips to regional plays, exhibits, music and more, all of which are offered to students at low or no cost.

Prior to orientation each student must complete the following:

Immunizations

Submit NC required immunization records. Students will not be allowed to register for classes until all requirements are met.

  • Collect your immunization history
  • Determine your specific immunization requirements
  • Submit your immunizations through Health Services' online patient portal

Pay Deposits

Students will not be allowed to register for classes until your $150 tuition deposit has been received. For those planning to live on campus the $150 housing deposit must also be paid. PAY HERE

Student Health Insurance

Show proof of valid medical insurance coverage or enroll in the mandatory UNC System Health Plan. LEARN MORE

Pay Orientation Fee

Students will not be allowed to access online orientation until the $45 orientation fee has been received. PAY HERE
